JEFFERSON PARK — A play that tells the story of a man who finally finds his calling in life and, in the process, sends his loved ones spiraling into a spiritual crisis is the latest production of the Gift Theatre's 2015 season.

"Body & Blood," by Gift Theatre co-founder and playwright William Nedved and directed by Marti Lyons, tells the story of Dan, whose epiphany has profound consequences for his friends and family.

"Body & Blood" represents the Gift Theatre's emphasis on "great stories told with honesty and simplicity," said Michael Patrick Thornton, the theater's artistic director and co-founder.

The play features The Gift ensemble members Lynda Newton and Gabriel Franken with guest artists Cyd Blakewell, Stephen Spencer and Nicholas Harazin.

Nedved said the play was inspired by his conflicted feelings about Catholicism, and writing it helped him grapple with the contradiction of considering himself Catholic while finding the church itself "contemptible."

Previews of the play start June 11 and run through June 14, with opening night set for June 15 at 4802 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 9.

Tickets, which range from $25 to $35, are available online at thegifttheatre.org or by phone at 773-283-7071.
