OLD TOWN — The family of a longtime chef at Old Town's Topo Gigio needs your help.
The two 5-year-old children of Jesus Torres were born with a chromosomal deficiency.
They need assistance getting to and from their school, Blair Early Childhood Center, and struggle with general motor skills.
The owners of Topo Gigio, 1516 N. Wells St., are hosting a casino night fundraiser Thursday to raise money to help the Torres family purchase a pulley system for their home, a ramp to get the children into their vehicle and a more accessible vehicle.
Neither boy can walk due to brain damage they suffered during a period of high fever when they were born.
The fundraiser kicks off at 7 p.m. and will include casino games, food and drink and an auction.
Tickets can be purchased at the door for $20.
Jesus Torres has worked at the restaurant for more than 10 years and will be at the fundraiser along with his wife.
"They take the boys everywhere with them. They are completely dedicated to the boys," said Sheri Reda, who owns the restaurant with her family.
