CHICAGO — A Metra Electric train derailed downtown early Wednesday, fouling up the morning commute for riders from the Southeast Side.
Around 1 a.m., the last train of the evening derailed near the 11th Street Station, blocking two sets of tracks. The cause of the derailment is still unknown, Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said.
To help out commuters, the CTA will be allow Metra and South Shore commuters to use their tickets to ride the Red Line between 95th and Downtown until 9 a.m. Tickets will also be honored on the No. 6, No. 28 and Jeffrey Jump buses, Gillis said.
Recently, Metra was able to open up one of the two blocked tracks, but morning rush hour trains should still be delayed around 15 minutes, Gillis said.
