CHICAGO — All Brown Line trains will be re-routed to the Red Line subway tracks this weekend for upgrades to the Brown and Purple lines, the CTA said in a statement.

Brown Line trains will operate normally between Kimball and Fullerton, but starting at 8 p.m. Friday Brown Line trains will be rerouted to the Red Line subway tracks at Fullerton along the Red Line to Roosevelt.

For service to or from the Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago and Merchandise Mart Brown line stations, the CTA will operate free shuttle buses between Fullerton and Clark/Lake. In addition, a shuttle will operate around the Loop to provide connections between Brown Line stations.

During the work, riders are asked to allow for extra time during weekend commutes.

Brown Line trains will return to the elevated tracks by 4 a.m. Monday. Additional work is scheduled from 8 p.m. on May 29 until 4 a.m. on June 1.

The upgrades are part of the CTA's $90 million Ravenswood Connector project, which aims to eliminate slow zones and create smoother rides for Brown and Purple line riders.
