PORTAGE PARK — "Sunset Boulevard," the ultimate Hollywood story of a star's attempt to regain her faded glory, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. May 22 at the Patio Theater.

The Silent Film Society of Chicago returned to the Patio Theater, 6008 W. Irving Park Road, in April.

After the temporary closure of the Portage Theater in 2013, the silent film society held screenings of movies from Hollywood's silent era in Des Plaines, Park Ridge and smaller theaters throughout Chicago.

Dennis Wolkowicz, who once ran the Portage Theater, will host the screening and provide "provide pre-show theater organ stylings."

The film stars Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, a silent-screen goddess, who has turned into a recluse. Joe Gillis, a writer who becomes her lover, tries to orchestrate her comeback, only to have it end in murder and madness.
