ENGLEWOOD — A social service agency is hosting a talent competition on May 23.

Children's Home and Aid is recognizing National Prevention Week, Sunday to May 23, an annual health observance that is supported by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The week focuses on increasing public awareness of substance abuse and mental health issues.

Children's Home and Aid has a theme this year for its talent show, "It Only Takes One."  The competition will be held noon-3 p.m. May 23 at St. John Evangelist MB Church, 1234 W. 63rd St.

Participants must be in 7th-12th grade and live in Englewood. Students can submit an original rap, song or spoken word/poem that is related to the theme. Swearing and derogatory language is not allowed.  The deadline to submit the works, along with the required form, is Friday.  

The form can be either emailed to rashanahb@gmail.com or dropped off to Jimi Orange, 773-918-8669, at the Children’s Home and Aid’s office, 5958 S. Marshfield Ave.

The first-place winner will be featured in a public service announcement, have part of the work heard on WKKC-FM 89.3 radio and be featured on the front page of Englewood Portal.org. Second- and third-place winners will receive a trophy.
