CHICAGO — All Brown Line trains are being re-routed to the Red Line subway track this weekend, the CTA announced Thursday.

Trains will operate normally between Kimball and Fullerton, but starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday trains south of Fullerton will run along the Red Line route all the way to Roosevelt.

For riders who need to reach stops at Armitage, Sedgwick, Chicago or Merchandise Mart, none of which are connected to the Red Line, the CTA will run a free shuttle between Fullerton and Lake that stops at or near all four stations.

The CTA also will operate a shuttle train on the outer track of the elevated Loop, where Brown Line trains normally run, for service to the subway and shuttle buses at Clark/Lake.

Brown Line trains will return to their normal course at 4 a.m. on Monday, May 11. The same switch will occur next weekend, starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 18.

The changes are due to construction work on the $90 million Ravenswood Connector Rehabilitation project, which CTA representatives say "will provide Brown and Purple line customers with a smoother and faster ride to and from the Loop."
