Get 'Re-Enchanted' As Moon on the Lagoon Returns to Humboldt Park

HUMBOLDT PARK — Bring your friends, family and flashlights to the 3rd annual Moon on the Lagoon gathering in Humboldt Park.

Humboldt Park art group Opera-Matic will host another evening of lullabies and starlight strolling with a bit of hooting and hollering thrown in for the all-ages celebration this weekend, May 8-9 around the Humboldt Park Lagoon.

As in past years, a chorus of lullabies and community sing-alongs greet visitors at the park from 7-9 p.m.

This year, Opera-Matic celebrates “the animals of the lullabied night,” according to an announcement for the event. That includes “the wise owls, the calling wolves, the sheep we count and all the pretty little horses that pull us to sleep.”

“In many parts of the world, people look to the moon, and see animals reflected there. On these May evenings, Opera-Matic invites us all to look to our Lagoon Moon and see what we can see,” the announcement reads.

“One of the things we’re really excited about is honoring Chicago parks by bringing elements that let people see the space in new ways and see each other in new ways,” Robin Cline, director of experience design for Opera-Matic, said ahead of the 2014 event.

The 2013 celebration included a giant inflatable moon on the lake as about 700 people joined in over two days.

“People have used the word magical a lot" to describe Moon on the Lagoon, Cline said. “We need, as a community, to get re-enchanted with ourselves and re-enchanted with the places we see all the time.”

Join Opera-Matic and hundreds of expected revelers for the family friendly Mother’s Day weekend event and stay tuned for more info on Opera-Matic founder Mark Messing's big brass blow-out and musical community march slated along The 606 high-rise park for its grand unveiling June 6.
