UPTOWN — A man who was shot in the chest while driving on Lake Shore Drive near Lawrence Avenue died Thursday morning after emergency surgery, police said.

Boshaun Jackson, 27, was hit in the chest and left arm. He drove himself to nearby Weiss Memorial Hospital, and was then transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.

Jackson wouldn't tell police what happened — but he did call his brother as he drove himself to Weiss, police said. The brother told police that Jackson told him he was driving north on Lake Shore Drive when he was shot, police said.

Investigators who followed up found a shell casing at 4848 N. Lake Shore Drive in the southbound lanes.

While at Weiss, a doctor recovered a bullet fragment from Jackson's clothes. He was transferred to Illinois Masonic, where he underwent surgery and later died, police said.

The shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. Thursday, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Jackson was driving a white Chrysler Concorde. Police did not say if they had any suspects in his slaying. Authorities said Jackson is a member of the Wicked City Black P-Stone street gang.
