LINCOLN PARK — The Green City Market is awaking from winter hibernation and is set to open outside on Saturday. This year marks the 17th season of the market, which is considered one of the top green markets in the U.S.

Opening day will be especially exciting this year, as chefs from the James Beard Awards are expected to visit the farmers market.

The market, which has been held inside the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum since the fall, will open outside at the south end of Lincoln Park from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Shelly Young of The Chopping Block will be hosting a chef demonstration from 10:30-11 a.m.

The James Beard-nominated chefs will be hosted by past James Beard Award winners Sarah Stegner, who is also co-president of Green City Market board, Carrie Nahabedian (Naha and Brindille) and Bruce Sherman (North Pond).

This year is the 25th anniversary of the James Beard Awards and first time they will be held in Chicago.

Discounted parking is available for $10 for under two hours with validation in the Chicago History Museum parking lot off Stockton Drive.
