EDGEWATER — Pearl's Southern Comfort is open on North Broadway.

After a major renovation — which included digging a basement and tearing everything out of a nearly 100-year-old building except for three walls — the Southern cuisine and barbecue eatery at 5352 N. Broadway served its first customers during its soft opening Thursday.

Owner Danny Beck also operates Toons Bar & Grill in Lakeview.

The menu includes such appetizers as apple wood-smoked wings ($9), smoked poutine ($12) and a pimento cheese spread ($8).

Barbecue options include smoked pork shoulder ($14) and Kansas City-style ribs ($19).

Entrees offered include Louisiana jambalaya ($14), crawfish ($14) and blackened catfish ($14). Pig, shrimp and catfish po'boys are also served.

Pearl's bar serves a few specialty cocktails, including the New Orleans classic rum-powered hurricane, for $10 each.

The rooftop patio is expected to open in June.
