EDGEBROOK — A new Edgebrook street festival — Destination Devon — is designed to reintroduce shoppers to downtown Edgebrook, organizers said.

The festival is being organized by Everyday Edgebrook, a group that broke away from the Edgebrook Chamber of Commerce earlier this year in an effort to breathe new life into the area around Devon and Central avenues.

The festival, which will take over Devon Avenue between Kinzua and Minnehaha avenues from noon-6 p.m. May 30, will feature music, local businesses and activities for children, said Laura Guenther, one of the founders of Everyday Edgebrook.

"It will be a great community day and a great day to welcome the summer," Guenther said. "We'd love to make it an annual event."

Everyday Edgebrook is working to bring more foot traffic to the businesses near Devon and Central avenues, and to fill empty storefronts, Guenther said. The group now has 36 members, she added.

The group is working to improve the grassy median near the Edgebrook branch of the Chicago Public Library with a "splash of color," Guenther said.

Plans are also in the works to add plants and flowers to the business district as part of the annual Edgebrook Garden Walk, which is typically held in June, Guenther said.
