THE LOOP — The Board of Election Commissioners on Thursday formally certified and proclaimed the final vote count from the April 7 runoff election.

No changes were made from the final tallies released Tuesday, and no formal complaints were lodged by any campaigns.

Sources said, however, that Ald. John Pope (10th) was still weighing a court challenge calling for a recount in his race against Susan Sadlowski Garza. Garza won by 20 votes in the final tally.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel won re-election comfortably over Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia (D-Chicago) in the first mayoral runoff.

Seven aldermen won re-election in the runoffs, while six lost, counting Pope.

In all, 13 new aldermen will be seated in the new City Council when city elected officials are inaugurated May 18.
