CHICAGO — A 20-year-old man is facing charges he shot a marijuana dealer dealer to death for not giving him a refund, prosecutors said.

According to Assistant State's Attorney Jennifer Cooper, Derrick Williams, 20, had purchased marijuana from Fabian Echavarria before their fatal encounter on March 19.

In the early evening that day, Echavarria was sitting in his car in front of his house in the 900 block of North Mozart Avenue when Williams got into the car and argued about a previous purchase, Cooper said.

When Echavarria refused, Williams shot him in his head. Echavaria's brother found him dead outside the home around 8 p.m., Cooper said.

Williams admitted to his girlfriend and another friend that he had shot Echavarria, Cooper said. Cellphone records also put Williams at the scene of the crime, Cooper said.

Williams was arrested Wednesday. He is charged with murder. Judge Donald Panarese Jr. held Williams on $1 million bail Friday.
