CHICAGO — Martell J. Lawrence, 16, has been identified as the boy fatally shot Saturday in the 6500 block of South Marshfield Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

In Englewood, at 12:18 p.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 6500 block of South Marshfield. When officers arrived, they found Lawrence with a gunshot wound to his head, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Lemmon said.

Around noon in Morgan Park, a 25-year-old man was shot in his lower back in the 11400 block of South Church Street, Lemmon said.

The man drove himself to Roseland Community Hospital where his condition had stabilized, Lemmon said.
