CHICAGO — This Thursday is the deadline for voters to apply for a mail ballot in order to vote in the April 7 runoff election.

So far, more than 13,000 Cook County suburban voters have applied for mail ballots, of which 78 percent were requested online. Cook County Clerk David Orr said there's been an increase in the number of mail in ballots since 2011.

“Voting by mail has become more popular with every election,” Orr said, “but for voters who want to take advantage of the opportunity to cast their ballots from the comfort of home, they need to act quickly.”

To apply for a mail ballot online, voters can visit the Cook County Clerk website to register. Through the website, they may also download and print the application, though it must be postmarked by no later than April 6 to be accepted.

For more information on mail-in voting, voters can check out this video presented by the Cook County Clerk's Office.
