Man Faces Murder Charges in Washington Heights Slaying

CHICAGO — A Washington Heights man is facing charges Friday after a shooting that left a Calumet Heights man dead earlier this month, police said.

Jameel Handcox, 20, of the 9100 block of South Justine Street, is charged with first-degree murder, police said.

Handcox was arrested after being identified as the person who shot Larry Hardwin Jr. in his head on March 9, police said.

Hardwin, 26, man was shot as he walked in the 9200 block of South Ada Street, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead, police said.

Handcox is set to appear in bond court Friday.
