
BEVERLY — Metra commuters in Beverly would be wise to avoid keeping valuables in their parked vehicles after a pair of smash-and-grab car burglaries this week.
Between 6-8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, someone smashed the passenger window of a vehicle in the 10400 block of South Hale Avenue in Beverly, according to police.
A checkbook was stolen from the glove box of the vehicle parked near the 103rd Street Station on Metra's Rock Island District line, police said.
A similar smash-and-grab occurred sometime between 2 p.m. on Monday and 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the 10500 block of South Hale Avenue, according to police.
The vehicle's rear window was broken and work boots, pants, a shirt and an ax were stolen, police said.
