JEFFERSON PARK — Crews are scheduled to begin replacing the 120-year-old sewer underneath two main streets in Jefferson Park next week, Ald. John Arena (45th) said.
The work is expected to snarl traffic along Lawrence Avenue between Central and Laramie avenues and along Central Avenue between Elston and Milwaukee avenues, Arena said. The sewer along Milwaukee Avenue between Central and Foster avenues is also scheduled to be replaced, Arena said.
While workers are on the job, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., lanes will be closed, but all streets will remain open, Arena said.
Delays are anticipated, since Central, Lawrence and Milwaukee are some of the busiest streets in Jefferson Park, Arena said.
Work should be completed in June, weather permitting, Arena said.
Sewer mains are also scheduled to be replaced this spring on several Jefferson Park side streets, Arena said.
Projects are scheduled for:
• Linder Avenue between Lawrence and Higgins avenues
• Kildare Avenue between Waveland Avenue and Irving Park Road
• Grace Street between Kostner and Kedvale avenue
• Waveland Avenue between Lowell and Kildare avenues
• Lovejoy Avenue from Catalpa to Central avenues
Crews are working throughout the city to replace 12-inch sewer mains with significantly larger pipes in an effort to prevent nearby homes from flooding, city officials said.
