CHICAGO — A man was charged with attempting to shoot two men who allegedly stole his minivan Saturday in North Lawndale, police said.

Wilfrido Cruz, 44, of the 4300 block of West Cullerton Street, was charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm Saturday, police said.

At 6 p.m, Cruz reported to police his Dodge Grand Caravan had been stolen. Officers responded and completed a preliminary report, police said.

Cruz, who has a conceal-carry license and a Firearm Owners's ID card, left to search for his van armed with a handgun, police said.

A short time later, Cruz found two men in his van in the 4100 block of West Cullerton Street and he opened fire at the van and the two men, who fled, police said.

Cruz returned home and hid his weapon, police said. He then spoke to the officers, who were at the scene and heard the gunfire, police said.

Officers discovered Cruz had two semi-automatic handguns, a revolver and a rifle, police said.

Cruz was charged, and is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.
