ROGERS PARK — A 31-year-old man had a 9mm handgun, a box of ammunition and several ammo clips in his trunk when he was pulled over Tuesday near a Clark Street McDonald's, according to court documents.

Quentin Sykes, of the 1700 block of West Pratt Boulevard, was charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon and ammunition and possession of marijuana. His bail was set at $50,000.

Sykes was driving just after midnight in an alley near his home when officers saw that his license plate sticker had expired, according to a police report.

After pulling over Sykes and walking up to the car, officers smelled marijuana and asked for Sykes' driver's license, which he did not have, the report said. Sykes then admitted to smoking marijuana and told officers he had a gun in the trunk of the four-door Pontiac Grand Prix, the report said.

Police said they recovered a 9mm Ruger handgun from inside a gray gun box, a clip with nine bullets, an empty 15-round clip and 30-round clip and a box of 24 bullets. A vapor cigarette was also found with suspected hashish residue, according to the report.

Police also noted a "Chicagorilla" tattoo on his upper right arm.

Sykes' next court date is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 26.
