OLD TOWN — If you plan on eating lots of pie to celebrate math's most popular holiday, why not do yourself a favor and finish your day with a run.

On Pi Day, March 14, the Illinois Science Council is holding its annual "Pi K" fun run and walk.

The run, keeping in tune to the science council's mission, will be 3.14 miles instead of the usual 3.1-mile 5K.

To mark 2015, or '15, the run will start at exactly 9:26:53 a.m.

That equates to a 10-digit Pi Day celebration.

Pi rounded to 10 digits is 3.141592653.

Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and is often used in math, science, engineering and statistics.

The three Chicago runs will start and end at Fleet Feet locations and all kick off simultaneously.

The runs start from Old Town, 1620 N. Wells St., Lincoln Square, 4762 N. Lincoln Ave., and South Loop, 150 W. Roosevelt Road.

The cost is $31.41 per runner, and $21.41 for students 17 and under.

The event benefits Illinois Science Council's educational programs.

As March 14 is also Albert Einstein's birthday, anyone named Albert or Alberta will receive a special discount.

Participants can register online at PiDayRun.org.
