EDGEWATER — The building that was rumored to be a former venue for Charlie Chaplin has sold.

One of the new owners, Kiki Stamelos, said Thursday she and her husband paid about $1 million for the property.

Andersonville artist Rosario Rosi had owned the building and intended to use it as an event venue and a showroom and workshop for his sculptures.

But after the recession, he ran out of money.

Stamelos said her husband, Spiros, is Rosi's doctor.

Now, she said, they are "hoping for a business" to come along to lease the building at 5757 N. Ridge Ave.

"It breaks my heart that we can’t finish it," Rosi had said previously of the building. "I’ve got my heart and soul and a lot of blood in that building actually."

The building had been listed for sale — at $1.5 million.

Rosi had said he was under a lot of pressure from the banks that held mortgages on the property.

Rosi didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
