CHICAGO — Eight more people were wounded by gunfire overnight, continuing a streak of violence across that city that has now lasted more than five days.

In total, at least 31 people have been shot — eight fatally — since Friday afternoon. After 15 people were wounded and five were killed this weekend, 13 more people were shot Monday, including three fatally. Among those shootings Monday was a particularly violent incident that left a 77-year-old man dead and a 2-year-old, a 5-year-old and a 34-year-old woman wounded.

The most recent shooting left an 18-year-old man hospitalized Wednesday morning after a shooting in West Ridge, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Around 5 a.m., the man was taking out the trash in the 6200 block of North Oakley Avenue when a man walked up to him with a gun. After a brief fight over the weapon, the man was shot in his left hand, Estrada said.

The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in good condition, Estrada said.

About three hours earlier, a 21-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 7200 block of South Green Street when someone shot him around 2:15 a.m., Estrada said. He was taken to Christ Hospital, where his condition was stabilized after he shot in his lower back in Englewood, Estrada said.

Just before midnight, a 22-year-old man was shot in Englewood as he walked in the 6200 block of South Peoria Street.

Around 11:30 p.m., a man drove up in a red van, hopped out and began shooting at the 22-year-old, who was hit in his lower back and buttocks. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

Around 8:50 p.m., a 16-year-old boy boy was standing in the 2900 block of West 38th Street in Brighton Park when a  man got out of a car and shot him in the leg before driving off, Estrada said.

The boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

Around 6:40 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was grazed in his head by a bullet as he sat in his car in the 1500 block of West 17th Street in Pilsen. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

An hour earlier two people were shot while they were in the 5300 block of West Altgeld Street in Belmont Cragin.

A 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were both taken to Community First Medical Center after the 5:38 p.m. shooting. The woman's condition was stabilized after being shot in her leg. The man was listed in serious condition after being shot multiple times, Estrada said.

Around 3:10 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in his leg as he got out of his car in front of his home in the 7700 block of South Saginaw in South Shore. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition, Estrada said.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings.
