ENGLEWOOD — Lindblom Math & Science Academy will honor one of its own Thursday,  the late African-American journalist and Chicago Defender reporter Ethel Payne.

James McGrath Morris, author of "Eye on the Struggle: Ethel Payne, The First Lady of the Black Press," will tell the story of Payne's life at 6 p.m. in Keeler Hall at Lindblom, 6130 S. Wolcott.

Payne was a Lindblom graduate and a West Englewood resident whose journalism career took off after she started writing for the historic Defender African-American weekly newspaper. Payne traveled the world and covered presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan. She also covered the Montgomery bus boycott and the 1963 March on Washington.

The presentation will share her journey from childhood to journalism.
