HUMBOLDT PARK — Maintenance work is complete after a northbound Metra train derailed Monday afternoon on the border of Logan Square and Humboldt Park, prompting a shutdown of a Metra line.

A crane was brought onsite to move the train back onto the tracks Monday night and service was continued on all lines with the exception of one canceled North Central service train, Metra authorities said Tuesday morning.

TV news helicopters hovered near the site throughout the investigation Monday evening, prompting questions from neighbors unaware of the train derailment.

North Central service Metra train 107 was derailed around 3 p.m. near 1800 N. Lawndale Ave. Monday at Metra’s A-5 interlocker — an interchange five miles from Downtown.

No injuries were reported but the derailment, located where the Milwaukee District West and North Central splits from the Milwaukee District North line, caused “significant delays on all three lines,” Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

Three train lines operating with significant delays Monday were restored as Metra fixed the damaged track and re-railed train 107.
