CHICAGO — One man is dead and another was seriously injured in a single-car crash on the Near North Side Saturday morning, police said.

At 6:05 a.m., a driver in a Cadillac sedan was eastbound in the 1100 block of West Division Street when he lost control and struck a pole, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.

The driver was identified as Michael McCardle, 40, of the 9700 block of South Winchester Avenue. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Hospital at 6:43 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The passenger, a 28-year-old man was also taken to Northwestern Hospital and listed in serious condition, police said.

The cause of the crash is unknown.
