LOGAN SQUARE — The primary election is over and results are being tallied, but votes for the Brewer’s Choice beer will be counted live Saturday night.

The Brewer’s Choice Chicago Beer Competition kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at the Madison Public House, 2200 N. Milwaukee Ave., featuring one brew each from 16 breweries.

The spirit of the event is “fun, unofficial [and] for the love of good beer,” according to an announcement from Madison Public House, but there must still be a winner, chosen by local brewmasters.

The final 16 breweries are still being determined, but that list currently includes beers from Half Acre Beer Company, Revolution Brewing, Ale Syndicate, Goose Island Beer Company, Off Color Brewing, Argus Brewery, Une Anee, Finch’s Beer Company, Atlas Brewing Company, Empirical Brewery, Slapshot Brewing Company, Metropolitan Brewing and Aquanaut Brewing Company.

Each brewery will designate one sixth-barrel to put on tap for the event and all 16 beers will be anonymous, marked with radomly-assigned numbers.

Voters will award a score of 1 to 5 for each beer based on three categories: “Style,” “Drinkability” and “Overall Awesomeness.”

The votes will be tallied at 10:30 p.m. and the winner will be awarded a $1,000 product commitment. Participating breweries will kindly supply swag for guests, to be given out throughout the night.

A $35 wristband includes access to all beers on tap from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and DJs will provide the backdrop with live sets throughout the night.
