CHICAGO — At least 12 people were displaced and a firefighter was injured after a fire in West Englewood, one of two fires early Thursday, officials said.

The first fire broke out at 1:10 a.m. in the 7300 block of South Paulina Street and spread to two other homes, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition, Sedevic said.

Twelve residents were displaced in the fire, Sedevic added.

The fire was struck out about 2:42 a.m., Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Frank Velez said.

The second fire started at 1:40 a.m. in an abandoned building in the 300 block of South Albany Avenue in East Garfield Park, Velez said.

No injuries were reported in that blaze. The causes of both fires were under investigation, Velez said.
