LOGAN SQUARE — A new cafe is in the works for Armitage Avenue in Logan Square.

Details are slim on Kaffe Cafe, 3524 W. Armitage Ave., but the cafe is close to completion, according to Christian Pena of Grandpa's Attic, located directly next door.

The cafe will be the first new coffee shop on the street, west of Sacramento Avenue, since Global Cafe closed in August 2014. It will offer sandwiches, wraps and other snack foods aside from coffee.

"I'm really excited for it to open," said Pena, who noted that several new establishments are making their way to Armitage Avenue since restaurants like Scofflaw and Parson's joined the list of neighborhood businesses on the street.

The approximately 12,000-square-foot cafe features a pool table, seating made of pews formerly located in the basement of Grandpa's Attic and counter space built by Pena and owners of Kaffe Cafe, who have been "working little by little" to get the cafe ready since last year.

The space had "no heating, no plumbing, no nothing" when work began, Pena said, but the building now displays a "coming soon" sign in the window and could open as soon the city issues approval.
