
CHICAGO — White Sox fans and all baseball fans are invited to join the family of White Sox legend Minnie Minoso in celebrating his legacy when he's laid to rest this weekend.
Minoso, the team's first black player when he debuted with the team in 1951, died Saturday nght in Chicago at age 90.
A public visitation will be held from noon-8 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Church, just west of St. Ignatius College Prep at 1080 W. Roosevelt Road, according to a statement released by the family through the White Sox.
A memorial service will take place at noon Saturday at the church. After the service, Minoso's funeral procession will pass U.S. Cellular Field, the family said.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that any donations in honor of "Mr. White Sox," who served as a community relations ambassador for the club after he retired, be given online here or addressed to Chicago White Sox Charities at 333 W. 35th St., the release said.
