CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy is dead and a 23-year-old man hospitalized after a shooting Monday night in South Deering, police said.

Around 7:15 p.m., the two were were in the 10600 block of South Yates Avenue when they were shot, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

The 17-year-old boy, identified as Deonte Hoard of the 10500 block of South Oglesby Avenue, was shot in his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, Pacheco said.

The teen was pronounced dead at 7:47 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The 23-year-old man was grazed in his head and taken to Trinity Hospital, where he was treated and released, Pacheco said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.
