LINCOLN PARK — Lincoln Park Zoo is celebrating the birth of a baby gorilla.
The zoo announced the birth of its latest resident Thursday afternoon.
The female western lowland gorilla was born Tuesday.
She is the daughter of Bahati and silverback Kwan.
No photos of the baby gorilla girl have been released yet and the Regenstein Center for African Apes has been closed to the media and public since the baby's birth.
The newest addition to the gorilla troop will join two female toddlers, Nayembi and Patty.
Patty and Nayembi were both born in the fall of 2012.
The zoo is hosting a media event for Friday morning for a first look at the new gorilla.
The Regenstein Center for African Apes will be re-opened to the public Saturday.
