LINCOLN PARK — With the official breaking of bread, Whole Foods Market is now open.

The highly anticipated Lincoln Park location at 959 W. Fullerton Ave. opened Wednesday morning.

Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) joined DePaul University President Dennis Holtschneider for the ceremonial bread-breaking.

A line of customers kept warm by portable heaters formed outside the new store early, with guests hoping to snag one of 500 gift cards ranging in value from $5-$50, with one card worth $500.

The two-story, 29,600-square-foot store replaces the former Dominick's on Sheffield and Fullerton avenues and will cater to commuters and students.

The shop also will feature a bar on the second floor, the Red Star Bar, with eight beers on tap and an exclusive Fullerton Stop pale ale brewed in partnership with Begyle Brewery.
