BEVERLY — With 17,755 ballots cast in 57 precincts, the 19th Ward led all 50 wards throughout the city with the largest number of total votes on Tuesday.

The ward that includes Beverly, Mount Greenwood and portions of Morgan Park has historically led the city in voter turnout.

On Tuesday, 19th Ward voters were asked to choose between Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) and Anne Schaible, a doctor of obstetrics and gynecology for 23 years.

O'Shea soundly defeated his challenger with 12,867 votes or 72.5 percent of the total. Schaible received 4,888 votes or 27.5 percent of the total.

Tuesday's election was a re-match between the 19th Ward rivals. O'Shea and Schaible squared off in a five-way race on Feb. 22, 2011. Then, O'Shea received 14,426 votes or 61 percent of the total. Schaible received the second-most ballots or 6,526 votes, 28 percent of the total.
