CHICAGO — Police are warning Bridgeport and Armour Square residents about a string of catalytic converter robberies this month.

On Feb. 17, two thefts were reported in Bridgeport. They occurred in the 500 block of West 25th Place and 200 block of West 26th Street, police said.

Three more incidents were also reported in February. These incidents occured as follows:

• 500 block of West 44th Street;

• 4200 Block of South Princeton;

• 300 Block of West 42 Street

Police are also investigating several catalytic converter robberies from Armour Square earlier this month.

Catalytic converters are part of a car's emissions control system and are valuable because of the precious metal they contain. Catalytic converters can be resold anywhere up to $150 at scrap yards.

Police are asking drivers to park their cars in well-lit areas and report suspicious activity immediately. In the case of a theft, find surveillance video and submit it to investigative police. Police ask that you do not touch anything in the crime scene until officers arrive.

Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8382.
