WICKER PARK — Artist Jesy Grose celebrated a successful opening night for Mystic at Heart at AdventureLand Gallery, where her work remains on display this month.
"Mystic at Heart plays into the expansion of creatures as companions to the gods. Creatures and the duality of human experience. Powerful and hungry to be seen, the artist takes on a yearning for her creatures to exist, to be known and to be seen and adored by all," Grose said. "The creatures are vulnerable and alone in their portrait. With her salty edges and a soft middle."
Grose, 30, grew up in rural northern Illinois where she became a nature lover, which shines through in her colorful work. Grose says she uses creatures to tell the story of her childhood ideals and real-life experiences and a message, "Play, dance, live, ride, dress-up silly and be yourself."
