AUBURN GRESHAM — They fought for their country, only to later became homeless.

But 54 veterans will no longer have to hunt for a place to rest at night thanks to a new Auburn Gresham development, Veterans New Beginnings at 8132 S. Racine Ave.

On Friday, there will be a grand opening ceremony at the home at 8132 S. Racine Ave. A representative from National Equity Fund, Inc., which contributed the low-income house tax credit equity for the development, will be on hand along with other local officials.

The project will offer single men and women veterans affordable housing. There will also be support services.

The facility came to be through a partnership between New Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church and the state. The church will manage the facility.
