LAKEVIEW — As a cathartic antithesis to Valentine’s Day, the Laugh Factory is inviting singles to capitalize on their absurd breakups and freakish first dates.

For the club’s singles only show this Thursday, audience members can submit stories of their worst dates, breakups and other relationship snafus before the show. The top three will be selected to tell their stories on stage — and the audience will pick a winner.

The best storyteller will walk away with a $200 VIP package that includes tickets and drinks for eight. Other prizes will also be offered through the night.

Being single "is something to celebrate,” said host Paul Farahvar. “It’s a hallmark event, and it should be something that’s treated just as uniquely as being in a relationship.”

The show starts at 10 p.m. at the Laugh Factory Chicago, 3175 Broadway St. Pre-show general admission costs $17. VIP tickets cost $27 and guarantee seating. VIPs will be allowed in at 9 p.m., a half-hour before doors open at 9:30 p.m. Tickets purchased at the door cost an additional $3.

Sydney Adeniyi, Amy Shanker and Chris Bader will join Farahvar on stage to talk about everything from Tindr hookups to disastrous breakups. It’s the first time the Laugh Factory has hosted a “for singles by singles” show, Farahvar said.

“I feel like a spokesperson for the singles, and it seems to be a niche that hasn’t been covered,” said Farahvar, a 17-time groomsman. “Instead of moping around, I felt like I should embrace it.”

After the show, singles hoping to find love can stick around and mingle with other comedy fans. Farahvar said if the event is successful, it could grow into a Chicago tradition, like the World’s Largest Block Party.

“For years, people would go to the singles event there, and Oprah would have the couples who ended up together on her show,” Farahvar said. “Maybe this will turn into a smaller-scale version of that.”
