CITY HALL — Mayoral candidate Willie Wilson is cast as a music star in a new YouTube video that makes light of his remark about "whiteys" at the City Club last week.

The video, "To the Whiteys," posted on YouTube, sets Wilson's remark to a percolating house beat.

Wilson was recorded telling the City Club audience: "To the whiteys here, I'm letting you know, I ain't prejudiced."

The 80-second video stutters Wilson's use of the word "whiteys," and later adds scratching at the word "prejudiced."

It was posted by someone identified as Willie Double, who apparently opened the account just last weekend in order to be able to put it on YouTube.

Wilson shrugged it off Monday.

"He thinks it's hilarious," said the Rev. Gregory Seal Livingston, Wilson's campaign manager.

The poster did not respond to requests for comment after a brief email exchange.

Wilson at first denied making the comment, then confronted by a tape allowed, "If I said something like that, that ain't me."

The election is Feb. 24, with a runoff set for April 7 between the top two if no one gets a majority of the votes.

The election website Aldertrack was the first to draw attention to the video Monday morning.
