BUCKTOWN — Athletes from 16 of the country's top men's tennis teams, including host University of Illinois' Fighting Illini, are headed to a Bucktown club Friday for a four-day-long indoor championship tournament.

Midtown Athletic Club, 2020 W. Fullerton Ave., on the border of Bucktown and Logan Square, will be the site of the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Men’s Tennis Team Indoor Championships.

“The ITA is delighted to have our championships return to Midtown Athletic Club, one of the most outstanding indoor tennis facilities in the country,” said David A Benjamin, ITA executive director, in a news release.

Benjamin added, “All our student-athletes are looking forward to participating, while spectators will have a chance to get up close and personal with the nation’s brightest stars."

Midtown General Manager Michael Mahoney said the club, which opened in 1970 and has attracted athletes such as John McEnroe and Billie Jean King, will be erecting 5,000 stadium seats for the matches.

For fans unable to attend in person, the games will be live-streamed for the duration of the event at both itatennis.com and midtown.com/Chicago.

The ITA Championships are open to the public and tickets are available at the door. Single day tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for students. All-session passes cost $25 for adults; $15 for students.

For a complete schedule of events, call Midtown Athletic Club at (312) 235-2300 or visit its website.
