CHICAGO — A man was wounded in a shooting on the North Side Friday night, police said.

In West Ridge at 10 p.m., a 27-year-old man was getting out of his car in the 1800 block of West Peterson Avenue, when he was approached by an unknown man who opened fire then fled the scene, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was shot in his back and leg and was taken to Saint Francis Hospital where his condition stabilized, Estrada said.

No one is in custody, and police are investigating.
