Police: Man Fatally Struck by SUV Before Being Hit by Unmarked Police Car

CHICAGO— Police are looking for a driver of an SUV that fatally struck a 60-year-old man in South Shore Wednesday, police said in a statement late Friday.

On Thursday, police initially reported the man was fatally struck while walking in the 2800 block of East 79th Street around 1:14 a.m. by an unmarked squad car heading east on 79th Street.

Now, police are seeking a driver of an SUV seen fleeing the accident traveling eastbound on 79th Street prior to the hit and run.

The dark colored SUV was last seen heading eastbound on 79th Street at Marquette Boulevard. Police believe the vehicle may have damage to the front and undercarriage.

Kevin Garrett, of the 1000 block of West Lawrence Avenue, was killed in the incident, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
