ENGLEWOOD — In honor of Black History Month, an author says he will share African-American history that isn’t taught in school at a free seminar this weekend.
“If you want to get a true sense of what black folks were doing back in the day, you will find no better book that presents that story,” said Nathan Thompson, author of "Kings: The True Story of Chicago's Policy Kings and Numbers Racketeers," in a video promoting his book.
The discussion will happen at Culture Connection, a gift store at 400 W. 71st St., from 4-7 p.m. Saturday. A copy of the book also can be purchased on Amazon.
“The book shows you a time when black folks were in control of the neighborhoods, when black folks were in control of the politics, when black folks were in control of the economic resources of the town that we live in,” he said.
Attendees are encouraged to register for the event on Eventbrite.com.
