COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Super Bowl party turned deadly Sunday when a guest pulled a knife on his girlfriend and stabbed three people who tried to intervene, prosecutors said.

Aaron Rutigliano, 29, shouted "I'm going to kill you all" after he sliced two women with the knife and fatally stabbed a Logan Square man 14 times, Assistant State's Attorney Jamie Santini said in court Tuesday.

Rutigliano was only subdued when two guests pinned him to the ground and stabbed him with his own knife, Santini said.

The commotion started about 8 p.m. Sunday when Rutigliano and his girlfriend began to argue at a Super Bowl party in the 2300 block of South Michigan Avenue, police and prosecutors said.

Rutigliano soon grabbed his girlfriend's hair, pushed her to the ground and pulled a knife from his pants pocket, Santini said.

Several partygoers tried to intervene, and Rutigliano stabbed a 21-year-old woman in her wrist and a 29-year-old woman in the side of her body, according to prosecutors.

When 22-year-old Antonio Gamboa jumped in, Rutigliano slammed him into a wall and stabbed him 14 times in the eye, neck, chest and back, Santini said. The Logan Square resident was pronounced dead a short while later.

Two guests eventually grabbed Rutigliano's knife and held him down until police arrived. During the struggle, Santini said, both guests stabbed Rutigliano, who continually threatened to kill everyone at the party.

Rutigliano was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was still being treated Tuesday morning for stab wounds to his abdomen.

Rutigliano, whose home address and mugshot are unavailable, was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery. On Tuesday, Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. ordered him held in lieu of $1 million bail.

According to prosecutors, Rutigliano had no prior criminal history. Authorities did not say what spurred the violent attack.
