MORGAN PARK — Kean Bros., one of the few remaining full-service gas stations in Chicago, was robbed at gunpoint on Friday afternoon, according to Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th).

Two men wearing dark clothing and hooded sweatshirts entered the gas station's convenience store at 2632 W. 111th St. in Morgan Park at 2:55 p.m. Friday, O'Shea said.

Owner Raleigh Kean was instructed to lay down on the floor The robbers pointed a gun at Kean as they stole his cellphone and $150 in cash from the business, according to O'Shea.

The robbers ran out of the store to a waiting black minivan. As of Sunday evening, they remained at large, O'Shea said.

Two men fitting this same description were seen in Kean and several other nearby shops on Thursday. Store owners said the suspicious men — who asked to use the bathroom — might have been casing the businesses, O'Shea said.

He hopes security cameras from these stores as well as those at Kean can help police identify the robbers.

Meanwhile, Kean Bros. remained closed for the remainder of the day on Friday. A popular hangout for teens, Kean Bros. supplies candy, pop and other snacks to neighborhood kids who are often allowed to walk to the nearby convenience store without supervision.

O'Shea is hoping to rally community support for the longtime business throughout the day on Wednesday. He's asking residents to make a concerted effort to stop by the store or fill up their gas tanks.
