BEVERLY — Don't expect the garbage truck going up and down your street to stop and pick up your Super Bowl trash.
Garbage and recycling pickups scheduled for Monday have been suspended throughout the 19th Ward, according to Ald. Matt O'Shea.
Garbage pickups will resume on Tuesday, beginning with homes that are typically serviced on Mondays, O'Shea said in an email to constituents.
Many of the city's big, heavy garbage trucks have been assigned to go up and down residential streets to make "ruts" or tire tracks.
The pathways made by the garbage trucks can then be used by smaller vehicles to better navigate side streets that were hit hard by the fifth largest snowstorm in Chicago history on Sunday.
Late Monday morning, the Department of Streets & Sanitation was deployed to side streets in Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park after spending the bulk of Sunday evening concentrating on the main roads. There are 145 miles of roadway throughout the 19th Ward, O'Shea said.
"I'd ask for your patience today as we work to get residential streets plowed," he said.
He also advised residents not to expect alleys to be plowed or for side streets to be plowed in the same "curb-to-curb" fashion as main arteries such as Western Avenue, 111th Street and Pulaski Road.
"We will however, be working around the clock to address residential streets," O'Shea said.
