CHICAGO — A 45-year-old construction worker was killed in a accident Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. at a construction site at Elm and State streets, said Officer Bari Lemmon.

The man was working in a crane about 60 feet above ground when he became pinned inside. Construction crews were able to unpin the man before emergency crews arrived, said Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

Emergency crews climbed to the top and used a ladder to bring the man down. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, Langford said.

Crews were working on a new high rise when the accident occurred.

The man was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Joel Ogeigo, of Portage, Ind.
