SOUTH LOOP — Huntington's Disease is a curious affliction that haunts those who may or may not have it, and documentary filmmaker Lucy Walker examines that uncertainty in "The Lion's Mouth Opens."

The 28-minute documentary has a screening at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Columbia College's Film Row Cinema, 1104 S. Wabash Ave.

A $12 donation benefits the Huntington's Disease Society of America. Doors open for a social event at 6 p.m. including hors d'oeuvres and a raffle, with the actual screening at 7.

The film follows actress and director Marianna Palka as she awaits word on genetic screening to test for the disease. The odds are 50-50 she's inherited it from her father.

Folk singer Woody Guthrie is one of the most famous Huntington's victims. His son, singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie, went through a similar period of uncertainty before finding out he didn't inherit it.

The film will be followed by a panel discussion.
