LOGAN SQUARE — Renovation plans are still in the works at the Congress Theater, but Saturday is your chance to check out the 90-year-old landmark in person before the theater is brought back to its former glory.

Ald. Joe Moreno (1st) will host a public Congress Theater tour Saturday, Jan. 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. “to discuss the changes that will be taking place under the new ownership,” according to his weekly newsletter.

After years of turmoil, plans for the renovation of the theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave., are officially set, including the construction of a small inn and affordable housing units, according to Moreno and the theater’s new management, New Congress LLC, led by developer Michael Moyer.

“This long-overdue rehabilitation project will not only renovate the theater’s historic lobby and auditorium, it will also include the improvement of the ground floor commercial spaces and the modernization of the above-grade residential units into a small inn and residences,” Moreno said Jan. 13 as the renovation was announced.

Stop by the Congress Saturday afternoon for a preview of what’s to come.
